There were four South of Scotland League matches scheduled to be played last Saturday.
St Cuthbert Wanderers were at home to Mid-Annandale and took the three points to put them into the top spot in the league table with a 6-0 victory. Jack McMurdo opened the scoring with Craig Rudd, Phil Middlemass and Sebastian Tenaggi adding singles and Grant Middlemass scoring a double.
Heston Rovers entertained Dumfries neighbours Lochar Thistle at Palmerston Park. The match was all square at half time with both teams recording a goal. Craig McCrone scored an own goal to put Heston ahead but Ian Anderson drew one back for the visitors to level before the break.
Lochar started the second half brightly and within a 10-minute spell went three ahead through a brace from Anderson and a single from William Dempster in quick succession.
Lochar’s McCrone then scored a second own goal to give the home side hope before an injury reduced Heston to nine men. Dayne Moore was then dismissed for a handball, with Anderson scoring a fifth for Lochar in the 76th minute and Steve Walker scoring a third for the home side in the final minute of the match.
Newton Stewart played hosts to Fleet Star at Blairmount Park and kept their outside championship ambitions alive with a convincing 7-0 victory.
The match at Trammondford Park between Wigtown and Bladnoch and Crichton was postponed owing to a water-logged pitch.
