Weather wipes out fixtures

The weather was once again the winner in South football on Saturday with only two matches going ahead.

They were two first round ties in the Cree Lodge Cup, with Mid-Annandale and Nithsdale Wanderers progressing to the second round.

Mid-Annandale recorded a 4-2 victory over Abbey Vale at New Abbey, with striker Nathan Muir claiming a hat-trick for the Lockerbie side to add to a single from Notman.

Vale came into the game with a late flurry but it was too little and much too late,

Islam Kadyioe found the net 12 minutes from time, with Stuart Cameron adding a second a minute from the end of the match.

The contest at Maryfield was much closer with the Sanquhar side going through by virtue of a penalty shoot-out victory after the game had ended in a 2-2 draw.

Liam Fleming put the viistors ahead in the 11th minute but Steven Walker levelled the match five minutes later with a 20-yard shot.

Geoff Patterson restored Nithsdale’s advantage 11 minutes before the break but a penalty kick conversion by Craig Adamson in the 64th minute squared the match once again.

There were no more goals and in a penalty shoot out Heston missed two of their five and Nithsdale scored with four to make it through to the second round of this particular competition.
