Variety adds spice to fixtures

The matches scheduled for this Saturday are in a variety of competitions with Creetown and Fleet Star locking horns at Castle Cary Park in the only South of Scotland League game being played.

Creetown presently lie at the bottom of the league table, two points behind Star and a victory for the home side would see them leapfrog their neighbours. This contest could go close but with home advantage Creetown will start as favourites to take the three points although a draw could well be the final outcome.

There is one South of Scotland League Cup quarter-final being played, with Mid-Annandale entertaining Lochar Thistle at Galabank for another math that could well be a close-run encounter. The Dumfries side, though, are finding the net consistently and will push Mids all the way for a place in this season’s semi-final stages, with Heston Rovers, St Cuthbert Wanderers and Wigtown and Bladnoch already through.

There are three Potts Cup second round ties scheduled with all looking like being interesting and exciting contests.

Lowland League side Dalbeattie Star play host to Newton Stewart, who will be on a high following their Scottish Cup victory over Fort William and will give the home side the respect they are due but will not be over-awed. However, Star will go into this cup tie as favourites to progress but the final result could well be close.

Much the same can be said of the match between St Cuthbert Wanderers and Crichton, who meet for the second Saturday in succession with the Kirkcudbright side coming out on top last weekend 5-2. There may well be a similar outcome this time around but Crichton will be determined to show that they are still a force in South football and the result could be closer.

Wigtown and Bladnoch meet Nithsdale Wanderers at Trammondford Park for a match that the home side look the more likely to win.
