Top competition for horse drivers

The South West of Scotland Horse Driving Club held a very successful driving weekend at Racks Farm, Collin, by kind permission of Millar and Margaret Paterson.

The event was sponsored by Millar and Margaret Paterson, Mark Paterson and John Stafford.

The competition attracted a good entry of competitors travelling from Cumbria as well as top local competitors.

The event started on the Saturday with the dressage, which was very kindly judged by Catrina Murray, and then followed by the cone driving. The marathon took the competitors over the neighbouring farm before returning back to the field to complete the five individually timed obstacles.

In a closely contested Open class, Drew Douglas from Kirtlebridge drove a good dressage and stayed on this score after having a double clear in the cones. Drew then drove a steady marathon to win the class.

After posting some very quick obstacle times to have the best marathon of the day Zan Kirk from Auldgirth moved up to take second place, just failing to catch Drew by 0.64 points. Pat Gillan drove consistently in all three phases to take third place finishing just 0.68 points behind Zan.

In the Novice class, David Hume from Cumbria took an early lead after dressage and cones and drove a very good marathon to win the class. Kirsteen McBride took second place and Janette Watson third.

In the Pairs class, Barbara Paterson was victorious from Ian McKendrick in second.

Megan Dickenson Hood won the Field class ahead of Jenifer Barnard in second and Jackie Griffin in third.
