Thrilling matches on the cards

As the race for this season’s title gathers pace Wigtown and Bladnoch meet St Cuthbert Wanderers at Trammondford Park for what could well be an exciting afternoon of football.

The home side are expected to take the points from this match against a new look Saints team, but the Kirkcudbright outfit could make it tough for their opponents.

Nithsdale Wanderers will be looking to add to their points tally after the visit of Creetown to Sanquhar, while Fleet Star will be hoping to take something from their match against Abbey Vale at New Abbey.

Crichton play hosts to Dumfries neighbours Heston Rovers at Hospital Park in a contest that looks like it could go either way, with home advantage perhaps being the deciding factor in favour of Crichton.

Newton Stewart step into the unknown when they travel to Dumfries to play newcomers Lochar Thistle but will be expected to take the points from this encounter if they hope to be considered as serious challengers for this season’s honours. However, Lochar have shown already what they are capable of and this could well be a very tough match for the Creesiders, who will have to be at their best to achieve a positive outcome otherwise the Dumfries team could well capitalise on any weaknesses.

There is also a full programme of events scheduled for midweek, all with 6.45pm kick-offs. Fleet Star play hosts to Wigtown and Bladnoch at Garies Park for a Cree Lodge Cup first round tie, while the other four games are South of Scotland League matches.

There is a local derby at Castle Cary Park where Creetown entertain neighbours Newton Stewart in what could well prove a lively event for supporters of both sides, while Crichton have Nithsdale Wanderers as their visitors to Hospital Park. Heston Rovers play Abbey Vale at Palmerston Park and Mid-Annandale play St Cuthbert Wanderers at Galabank.
