last Sunday’s Galloway Thistle Legends match raised over £1000 for the club after former members were reunited for the game.

Two mens teams split by age took to Blairmount Park in the special match which drew a sizeable crowd of supporters.

The ‘Olders’ team featuring players aged 27 and over defeated the ‘Youngers’ team 8-2 on the day in a match which was closer than the scoreline suggested.

Goals from Cooksley (2), Gibson (2), Stewart (2), Dingwall and Davidson proved the older legs still had plenty to offer while Andrew Dunse and Kerr Norris restored some pride for the Youngers.

On the day both teams wore strips designed from the original home and away kits used when the club was first formed in 1994.

Current and former coaches came out in support of the match which also featured a raffle, generously supported by local businesses.

Co-organiser Johnathan Munro was delighted with the £1014 raised.

He said: “We are thrilled with the support the event received. There was huge interest from former players and on the day there was some great football played which hopefully showed off some of the good advice our coaches passed onto us back in the day.

“There is a great deal of people to thank, the volunteers, players, those who donated, and the businesses who gave generously for the raffle.

“A special mention must go to Martyn Orr of Martyn Orr Plumbing and Heating and Scott Dingwall of Bauer Nutrition who sponsored both sets of kits.

“It was a lot of fun for the players catching up with former teammates that for some they hadn’t kicked a ball with for nearly 20 years.

“The support for this event highlights the strong attachment this area has for Galloway Thistle and hopefully the club will continue for at least another 20 years and beyond.”

The organisers, Johnathan, Andrew Gibson, Liam Muir and Gary McKie would also like to thank Clone Motor Sport for adapting the strips.
