Galloway Thistle 4, East End 2
Tuesday night was a historic night for Galloway Thistle Youth FC as their under-13s won youth league title.
They triumphed by defeating their arch rivals from East End, who put up a great fight. However, in the end Thistle were just too strong for them.
With a very large crowd turning up at the Merrick, Thistle really fought for their lives to lift the title.
Marco Whyte yet again was in deadly form, completing yet another hat-trick, starting with the opener on the 10th minute.
East End came back strongly and got a deserved equaliser before half-time to go in at 1-1.
East End, who are well deserved runners-up in the league, came out strongly and went in front early in the second half but, as has proved the case regularly this season, when Thistle go behind they just get stronger. And within 60 seconds Whyte was pulled down in the box but brushed himself down to calmly slot away the equaliser.
This spurred Thistle on and it was no surprise when Thistle captain Whyte completed his eighth hat-trick within the past three weeks to put his team ahead.
Only five minutes later, Thistle knew the title was theirs with young Dean Thornton rising high above the visitors’ defence to secure the win for Galloway Thistle.
The final whistle was blown at 8.20pm and Thistle went wild with celebrations. The only downside is that the league trophy was not there for a presentation, but on Saturday Thistle are at home to Lochar in the league cup semi-final with an 11am kick-off so, hopefully, the boys can party then.
The fixture was changed due to Lochar coaches going to Manchester United for a day out on Sunday.
