There were four South of Scotland League matches played last Saturday with the match at Hospital Park between Crichton and Fleet Star ending up goalless.
But there was no shortage of goals in the match at Palmerston Park where Heston Rovers and Abbey Vale served up a ten-goal derby thriller.
Sean Kevan put the home side ahead after only four minutes with Russell Jardine doubling the scoreline six minutes later. Vale refused to lie down though and with eleven minutes played Daniel Thom brought his side back into the contest before Curtis Teller hit a double to put the visitors ahead.
With play roaring from end to end Kevan levelled the match just on the half time whistle to send the teams in at the break with three goals apiece.
Heston then dominated play to take a two goal lead through Robson Halliday and a second from Jardine. With time running out Vale staged a comeback with Dillon Cairn scoring a fourth for them with two minutes left to play and Ricky Baxter finding an equaliser deep into time added on to complete the scoring in an exciting contest.
Dumfries YMCA continue to struggle to put points on the table and were soundly beaten 5-1 by Nithsdale Wanderers at Sanquhar while two goals from Stephen Jackson and a single from Marc Leighfield was enough for Upper Annandale to see off the challenge of Creetown at Moffat.
There were two first round ties in the Potts Cup played with Newton Stewart going down 4-2 to Edusport Academy at Galabank although by all accounts the Creesiders produced a very good display scoring twice through Ryan McKie but just failing to have the experience to overcome a very good Edu team.
Lochar Thistle also progressed in this particular competition by virtue of the same scoreline in their match at Lockerbie against Mid-Annandale. Ryan Service gave the visitors the lead after only six minutes which they held until the break.
In the 61st minute Ryan Coates doubled Lochars advantage but eight minutes later Andy White pounced on a rebound from a free kick to give Mids hope and 30 seconds later substitute Sean Dunbar squared the match. With extra time looming the visitors found two goals in the final five minutes though Willie Dempster and an own goal put into his own net by White to send Lochar comfortably through to round two.
