A party of Swiss male curlers arrived at stranraer Ice Rink on Tuesday evening as part of their three-week long tour of Scotland.
After having dinner in the North West Castle Hotel with local curlers, the Swiss were up bright and early on Wednesday morning to curl against four teams, two representing the Galloway Province and two representing the Rhins ‘O Galloway’ Province. Before play started the players were piped onto the ice by piper Andy Ross and the Swiss curlers then heartily sang their national anthem, led by their resident signer for the tour, Maya Rymann.
After having lunch with their opponents, the tourist boarded their touring bus bound for Ayr Ice Rink where they were due to curl again at 4pm.
Overall the Swiss curlers beat the Stranraer based players by 30 shots to 23.
The Galloway Province were represented by Drew Paton (Penninghame CC); Graham Adams (Kirkcowan CC); Jak Kane (Wigtown CC); Andy McClymont (Minnigaff CC); Jim Cannon (Wigtown CC); James Maxwell (Glasserton CC); John Wilson (Kirkmabreck CC) and Doug Snell (Penninghame CC).
