A STRANRAER Academy pupil led out his team at Scotland’s national football stadium on Tuesday for the Lloyds TSB Scotland U18 Senior Shield Final at Hampden.

Robert Boyd also had the honour of meeting Gordon Strachan prior to the final, which has an illustrious history stretching back over 100 years.

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Alex Fergusson also tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating the Stranraer Academy football team on reaching the final.

He said: “The Lloyds TSB Senior Boys Shield is the national football competition for under-18s, and to reach the final is no mean feat. Stranraer Academy are to be hugely congratulated on reaching the final, which is to be played at Hampden Park on Tuesday 24th May, and I am sure the whole of Galloway joins me in wishing the team all the best for the final.”
