Frazer Hare and Andrew Chalmers edged out Ian Kirkpatrick and Cara Compton in an action packed final of the Mcllwrick Pairs Trophy, sponsored by Specsavers Stranraer.

Both teams now qualify for the National Pairs Final to be hosted by Stranraer Ice Rink in March 2017.

Ian and Cara had reached the final with victories over teams skipped by Andrew Hannah, Robbie Lyon and Philip Wilson whilst Frazer and Andrew secured their place in the final by beating teams skipped by Blair Haswell, Katie McMillan and Niall Ryder.

Ice Rink President, John Ferguson noted that the competition had attracted a high quality field of 32 male and female curlers, that the club’s young curlers had all given a good account of themselves and that both finalists had to deliver some spectacular shots to overcome their opposition and reach the final. John thanked Elaine Hawthorn, Director at Specsavers, Stranraer Branch, for the generous sponsorship and passed on her best wishes to all who had competed.

Winning skip Frazer thanked all the teams for taking part, Ian and Cara on securing a place in the National Finals, his family for turning up to show their support and Specsavers Stranraer for the prizes of curling brushes for the winners and brush heads for the runners up. Specsavers Stranraer, are also providing polo shirts for both finalists to wear at the National Finals.
