The Stranraer Darts Super League Team travelled to Cumnock on May 31 to take part in the Ayrshire super league finals.
This event seen some of the finest darts players from around Ayrshire and further afield competing to qualify for the British Champions Cup in Hull.
The select team of players managed to hold their nerve and shake off a few scares to eventually come through as the final winners. The scores were Stranraer 5-4 New Cumnock, Stranraer 5-4 Dreghorn.
The final game was won by Stephen (Erchie) Fletcher who managed to keep his composure to hit double 2 to secure the win. This winning double started the crowd chanting “what will you do, when he hits double 2?, walking in a Fletcher Wonderland”. It was a great atmosphere and commiserations to the other teams who really tested the skill of the Stranraer elite team.
Qualifying for this event in Hull on August 10 is a massive acheivement for a small town like Stranraer and the success is down to the grit and determination of all the players involved. Following success, seen messages of congratulation from five-times world champion Eric Bristow and two-time world Champion Adrian Lewis as well as Premier league player and fellow scot Peter Wright.
The Super League Committee would like to congratulate all who took part and wish the players all the luck in the world with the Champions Cup and hope they have great success and return to Stranraer as British champions.
We would also like to thank Border Cars, Stranraer, Town and County Darts Committee and the Corner Pocket for their sponsors and support to ensure the team could enter the event in Cumnock.
However for the next stage, the players are needing to fund the travel and accommodation themselves, so the Super League committee would greatly appreciate any sponsorships or donations, no matter how small that may assist the players with attending this event.
