The sixth annual Stranraer and District Riding Club Charity Horse Show was held in beautiful sunshine and a lovely day was had by all.

Competitors came from all over Wigtownshire and from as far afield as Dumfries to support the club’s fundraising efforts for Stranraer Happy Hooves Riding for the Disabled Group and the Club.

Judge Elizabeth Brown from Kilmarnock had a busy day judging the Show Ponies, Show Hunter Ponies and Mountain and Moorland classes. Mrs Brown chose Four Oaks Courageous Free Spirit ridden by Freya Glover as her champion with Major Blue V ridden by Emma McCornick as Reserve.

Judge Mandy Brown from Irvine from Kilmarnock judged the young stock, coloureds and hunters, selecting Huckleberry Pie ridden by Steffanie Singleton as her champion and Giselle of Brynoffa risen by Kate Macdonald as Reserve.

The judges selected Freya Glover and Four Oaks Courageous Free Spirit as Supreme Champion, and recipients of the Dr John Calvert memorial trophy, presented by Mrs Pat Calvert, with Steffanie Singleton and Huckleberry standing Reserve Supreme Champion.

After the showing was completed many people came forward to help build the showjumping course directed by Debs Millington. The pony classes were particulary well filled with everyone vying for the many trophies on offer and parking and seating was at a premium.

The Pet Show was held mid afternoon with local vet, Rhona Anderson, judging the entries. Miss Anderson selected the lovely cocker spaniel puppy Woody, led by Ellie Miller as her champion, with the veteran Meg, owned by Alison Yellowlees as Reserve Champion.

Grateful thanks to all the judges, stewards and helpers who gave their time to make the day such a success, raising £1,200. Special thanks to Sheena, Marie, Daniel, Carla, Sue, Sheila, Debs, Mhairi, Julie, Rhona, Zoe, Susan and Brian.
