Star lift Tweedie Cup

Dalbeattie Star 1, Threave Rovers 1 (Star win 2-1 after extra time)

Recently crowned league champions Dalbeattie Star added the Tweedie Cup to this season’s collection after beating Stewartry rivals Threave Rovers 2-1 after extra time at Galabank, Annan.

The Castle Douglas side took the lead after 12 minutes through Sam Warren to give them a lead that they held into the break.

Star fought back and equalised through prolific scorer Scott Milligan 11 minutes after the restart and, although play swung from end to end, there were no more goals in the regulation 90 minutes and extra time came into play.

Ten minutes into the first half of the extra time, Hugh Cameron scored the decisive goal which clinched the silverware. Threave pushed to take the contest to a penalty shoot-out but they failed to find the all important counter and the trophy went to Star.

This is Star’s third success of the season as they also won the League Cup and have an opportunity to add a fourth when they play Nithsdale Wanderers next week in the final of the South Challenge Cup, which will again be played at Galabank.
