South sides return to league business

There are five South of Scotland League matches scheduled to be played on Saturday, April 6, with some exciting contests in prospect.

Creetown play hosts to Nithsdale Wanderers in a match the visitors will start as favourites to win, although the home side are expected to put up their usual strong challenge to try to take soemthing from the contest.

Wigtown and Bladnoch travel to Hospital Park to play Crichton in Dumfries and should justify their high league table placing with a victory and another three points. However, it could be a close encounter with much depending on what form the home side produces on the day.

Heston Rovers entertain league leaders Dalbeattie Star at Maryfield and although this could also be a fairly even match, the unbeaten visitors will start as strong favourites to add another three points to their already impressive tally.

St Cuthbert Wanderers travel to play Newton Stewart at Blairmount Park in a contest that usually produces a few goals. This is one that could go either way depending on the team that strikes the best form on the day.

Threave Rovers have Abbey Vale as their visitors to Meadow Park with the Castle Douglas side strong favourites to record a victory.

There are three matches due to be played on the evening of Wednesday, April 10, with Heston Rovers playing Dumfries neighbours Crichton at Maryfield in a league match in what should be a close-run contest.

There are two Cree Lodge Cup first round matches scheduled.

Threave Rovers play Wigtown and Bladnoch and Creetown entertain Dalbeattie Star, with the Stewartry sides favourites to progress, though Wigtown could possibly push Threave all the way before a winner is found.
