Six from the south in second round of Challenge Cup

There are only two South of Scotland League matches scheduled to take place this Saturday with the South SFA Regional Challenge Cup second round matches taking place.

Creetown will play St Cuthbert Wanderers at Castle Cary Park in a contest that the visitors will start as favourites to take the three points from while the match at Blairmount Park where Newton Stewart and Heston Rovers looks too close to call although with home advantage the Creesiders will be looking to take the full points.

Six of the cup ties involve South Clubs with Abbey Vale being up against it when they play hosts to Lowland League side BSC Glasgow and similarly Mid-Annandale who face recently relegated East Stirling at Lockerbie.

Upper Annandale entertain Whitehill Welfare and will do well to contain their visitors while Lochar Thistles away match against Spartans in Edinburgh looks like one where the home side will start as strong favourites to progress in this particular competition.

South league leaders Wigtown and Bladnoch could do quite well against Lowland League side Dalbeattie Star at Islecroft Stadium with the final match being at Sanquhar where Nithsdale play Threave Rovers.

This match could well go close with possibly more than the regulation ninety minutes being required to find a winner.
