Return of the ten for Hillbillies

The Galloway Hillbillies held their second event this year at Kirroughtree Forest on Saturday with the return of the 10 – a ten-hour mountain bike event with solos, pairs and teams of three or four bikers completing as many laps of a 10-mile course as possible in ten hours.

The 10-mile lap was a wonderful mix of Seven Stanes Red and off piste natural rooty sections, presented in fantastic condition due to the dry weather of late. And even after ten hours of 116 bikers lapping the course, the trail was in great shape – a testament to the Forestry Commission and Seven Stanes team who maintain the trails.

During the day, the hillbillies had organised some great entertainment including a rodeo bull and inflatable assault course, the 7 Stanes Display Team and Africadabra. Event partner Churchill Catering also put on a scrumptious hog roast during the afternoon.

The Galloway Hillbillies would like to take this opportunity to thank the many sponsors, competitors and supporters that have made this event and the Kirroughtree Hillbilly Duathlon that took place in May, such a success.

The team have embraced the good feedback from both events and are looking forward to hosting the Duathlon at Kirroughtree again in May. In preparation, please join your local running clubs and hire a bike for the trails at Kirroughtree so that you too can take part in a Galloway Hillbillies Event next year!
