AS the new football season gets under way, one thing is crystal clear – Rangers supporters in Wigtownshire and South Ayrshire are not walking away.
After months of financial turmoil and disparaging headlines for the Glasgow club, this weekend a full 49-seater bus load of Gers fans from Newton Stewart, Barrhill and Girvan will travel up to Ibrox to cheer on their team in the third division league tie against Elgin City.
Tommy Donnelly, from the Newton Stewart Rangers Supporters Club, said: “The level of support for the club is more intense than ever this season and the demand for tickets has been incredible. In 25 years of doing this I never expected this. It really has been phenomenal.
“Rangers FC have halved the cost of kids’ season tickets and, therefore, more families want to go along – and that has been a big factor.”
