Galloway Province Curlers celebrated the unique and unprecedented achievement of two of its players on Sunday night in winning their respective world curling championships in the same season.

It was not just a club celebration at Beltie Books Cafe in Wigtown, but a family occasion too, as Gregor Cannon and his mum Christine won junior and senior gold within a month of each other.

Around 30 members heard Galloway Province President Drew Paton remark on the monumental talent and dedication of both players that has taken them to the top of their sport and he was sure it would not be the last time the Galloway Province would gather to honour them.

Both world champions were presented with a personal memento from the club by Mrs Mona Cannon, Gregor’s grandmother. Gregor and Christine also received a glass engraved ornament to mark their double success in 2016.
