Dumfries will be one of only two locations in Scotland where you can watch the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics live on a big screen on Friday, July 27.
A large screen will be installed at the Mid Steeple, on the High Street in the town.
The evening of entertainment will also include performances by local talent, including one of the region’s premier bands Finding Albert.
Graham Main, festival director of The Big Burns Supper, said: “We’ve been in talks with colleagues here and in London about how best to create an entertainment programme leading up to main event – the opening of the Olympics. The event starts at 6pm, and we’ll go live to London for the ceremony around 8.30pm, and then we’ll continue the entertainment until around midnight. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The only other place in Scotland doing this is Edinburgh. It’ll be a great fun family night out and it’ll help the evening economy of Dumfries.”
People should bring their own seats. Food will be available from suppliers in the vicinity.
