Dalbeattie Star completed their league campaign unbeaten when they played their final match against Newton Stewart at Islecroft on Monday and won by 5-0.
The visiting team had one eye on their Wednesday night Tweedie Cup final against Threave Rovers.
Star had already won the league by drawing 1-1 with Threave on Saturday but were still determined to go through the league campaign unbeaten. The Dalbeattie side were the last club to win the South of Scotland League without being beaten in 1985 although six seasons ago Creetown were unbeaten in the league but because of drawn matches lost out to Threave and only managed second spot.
Against Newton, Scott Milligan sent Star on their way from the penalty spot in the 24th minute, with Lewis Sloan adding a second 11 minutes later. Sloan scored number three in the 63rd minute, and Grant Parker added number four with 20 minutes left to play. In the 75th minute Curtis Wilson found the net as Star went nap.
Heston Rovers kept up their good form with a 3-2 victory over Stranraer at Maryfield in a match re-arranged from Saturday. Blair Dougan opened the scoring for the visitors after only four minutes, with Steve Walker squaring the match six minutes later. Russell Jardine put the home side in the driving seat but Lewis McIntyre levelled the match again just on the half-time whistle. With 61 minutes played, Steve Millar scored the winner for Heston.
St Cuthbert Wanderers scraped through against Mid-Annandale at Kirkcudbright with a Craig Rudd double in the 33rd and 38th minutes countering a Darren Notman opener in the 20th minute before Mids’ Connor Murray squared the match just before the break. Five minutes after the restart, McCrindle put the home side into a slender lead and Ryan Mckie scored the fourth goal in the 65th minute, which eventually won the three points. However, Mids had a Darren Notman effort disallowed two minutes before the end, with Ally Sloan scoring the goal of the match in the last minute with a superb 35-yarder with his left foot which found the top corner of the net.
