Newton Stewart Superlap Scotland and UK time attack driver Martyn Henry has been very successful on the racing circuit this summer, lying in thord place as the final rounds of both championships approcah.
Martyn took time out this week to update Galloway Gazette readers on his progress.
He said: “I was racing at Croft near Darlington on Saturday competing in round five of the UK time attack championship and came first in my class, I had never been to Croft before so had al ot of work to do on the day. In the warm up session in the morning it was raining, so I went out and took it steady trying to learn the track, by the practice session it was drying up so starting pushing on, as my confidence grew my lap times dropped and I started to climb the standings, when qualifying came I was feeling good and managed to put in a time good enough to take second place.
“By this time the temperature had increased dramatically and the car was suffering from overheating. Inside the car, the temperature got to 46c!
“When the final came round, I gave it everything, pushing hard, and again the car started overheating and a drive shaft was failing, so I had to come into the pits. But I was told I had done enough to take first place.
“That result means the points championship couldn’t be closer with just the final to go on September 19. Currently, I am third with 47 points, the driver in second place has 48 points and the driver inthe lead has 49 points.
“The time attack final will be at Rockingham, Northamptonshire, and the other championship I am doing, Superlap Scotland, will be at Knockhill on Sunday, September 20. I am sitting third in that championship too, so it will be a busy weekend traveling to compete in both events!”
