Pupils from across Dumfries and Galloway will converge on Dumfries on Saturday for the Active Games Finals where 39 children from the Machars will compete in eight different events.
Athletics, cycling, gymnastics, boccia, swimming, netball, rugby and badminton are on the cards and the team is made up of pupils from various primaries within the Douglas Ewart cluster who will be representing our area as Team Nigeria.
A total of 510 children in 16 teams representing countries in the Commonwealth Games will compete in eight sports across three Dumfries venues as part of the annual fun.
The Active School and Community Sport teams have developed a series of local programmes that has allowed for teams to be selected to represent schools from across the region in the Acve Games final.
Dumfries and Galloway Council Leader, Ivor Hyslop, said: “The main aim of the Active Games is to realise
a meaningful sporng legacy from the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow in 2014. As part of the
event we will be welcoming a number of sporng ambassadors who are compeng or have competed at
the top of their sport which can only inspire the children to do well and connue to take part in sport
and lead a healthy lifestyle.”
