Thistle are too hot to handle

Annan Athletic U13s 1, Galloway Thistle U13s 5

Thistle travelled to Annan for this difficult fixture but came away with the score being kind to their hosts.

Played on an unbelievably poor pitch, both sets of youngsters battled through mud but still played decent football.

Thistle could have been three up in the first 10 minutes, with Whyte having a great start to the match.

In the 15th minute Thistle did go ahead through Jordan Hughes with a fine finish, then two more quick goals came from Penrose and Potter, who had come on for Adair who was taken off feeling unwell

Half-time arrived with the visitors 3-0 ahead and hungry for more. The second period kicked off with Parlane in midfield running the show, but in a counter-attack Annan pulled back a goal at the third attempt after keeper Jolly pulled off two great saves.

This seemed to kick-start Thistle and they began to play great football with right-back Dean Thornton having an outstanding game. So it was no surprise when Whyte took control of the ball for a 10-minute period in which he scored a well-taken goal and a penalty.

Whyte even had the chance of a hat-trick in between that when he missed his first penalty, but the 12-year-old still had the determination to take the second one to finish off the hosts.

This leaves Thistle knowing that if they win their next two games, the league title will be there for the taking.

This Sunday sees the boys at home to Mid -Annandale with a noon kick-off at Minnigaff Park.
