Stranraer sack manager
Stranraer have sacked their manager, Keith Knox.
The club have struggled this season in Division Two and are firmly anchored at the foot of the table.
On Saturday, they lost heavily again, going down 3-0 at Brechin City. Knox helped Stranraer to win promotion last season – by default. Having lost out to Albion Rovers in a play-off, the club was granted promotion nonetheless because of Rangers going bust and dropping to the Third Division.
But Stranraer have decided to act swiftly in a bid the turn the club around. Ironically, Brechin had sacked manager Jim Weir just the week before, with the new man, Ray McKinnon, overseeing the downfall of both the club and Knox with Saturday’s result.
Stranraer have appointed assistant manager Stephen Aitken to take charge of all first team affairs for now.
In a statement, the club chairman, Robert Rice, said: “Recent results have been unacceptable and the club’s committee felt that change was now required. This had been a very difficult decision and one that had not been taken without serious deliberation and debate.
“Stranraer FC would like to thank Keith Knox for all his efforts during his three years in charge and wish him all the very best for the future.
“Stephen Aitken has accepted the role as interim manager and will prepare the first team for the upcoming fixtures.
“It is important that we now look forward and work together at the club to begin the task of gaining the results required to improve the club’s league position as soon as possible.”
