Stewartry go down again

Allan Glen’s were going to make sure that relegated Stewartry were not going to repeat last season’s result when the Blacks won at Bishopbriggs.
Having won at Greenlaw already this season, Allan Glen’s were quick out of the traps to complete the double over Stewartry, scoring two tries in the first five minutes.
Both teams were evenly matched up front but Allan Glen’s had useful stand-off who dictated the play, an outside centre who was as slippery as an eel and a left-winger who was like a whippet with a great turn of speed. These three did the damage throughout the game.
The first try came from a quickly taken penalty allowing the forwards to drive over. The second was a clearance kick from their own half chased and hacked on by the winger for a try in the corner.
In eight minutes Stewartry missed a penalty kick, one of their few chances in the first 20 minutes. Stewartry lost a lineout, the ball going loose and Glen’s were in for a third score. A penalty soon followed and Allan Glen’s were 18-0 ahead. A series of missed tackles gave Glen’s the bonus point with a try at the post, and the conversion added.
Stewartry scored their consolation try in 30 minutes when, from a lineout, Rory Porteous won the ball and Danny Burton set captain Ian Fenwick crashing through two tackles before setting Stevie McCulloch the easiest of scores. It was possibly the try of the season straight from the training pitch. But at half-time Allan Glen’s led 25-5.
The second half was much the same as the first with few highlights for Stewartry, although scrum-half Jamie Farquhar had to show a turn of speed to stop the speedy left-winger scoring out wide on two occasions. It was not enough as he found his way over to the other wing for his second try. Two more tries followed, stretching the Stewartry defence. The Allan Glen’s kicker had now found his range, adding all three conversions for a final scoreline 46-5.
This week Stewartry have a final home game against Annan, with a kick off at 3pm.
