Outdoor curling goes ahead

CURLERS across Galloway were in their element over the weekend as they were given a rare opportunity to play outdoors.

Players in Kirkcowan, Wigtown, Gatehouse, Castle Kennedy and further afield turned out in force to curl on the frozen lochs and ponds.

Craighlaw near Kirkcowan saw ice almost seven inches thick which held firm for the 30 or so curlers who took part.

For the first time in 40 years, crowds gathered at Bush Loch, Gatehouse for a bonspiel and many children who have never seen the like watched in awe.
