On February 9, Douglas-Ewart High School played Linwood High School.

The Douglas-Ewart were through to the knock-out round in Open Silver grade in the Scottish Schools Cup. The team were very close to making the Gold section this year, winning two of their three games in the first round, and only missed out due to a countback of goals.

The game started with well, with the Ewart team well warmed up as Linwood were late coming in by three-quarters of an hour due to travel hiccups.

The Ewart team pulled ahead by two goals by quarter time, with some great work by all the team.

The second half was just as intense with the pressure still on, and Linwood coming back for a draw at half-time.

The third quarter was a difficult affair for both teams, but it was goal for goal with Linwood edging ahead by two.

The fourth quarter was a well-supported, noisy affair from both teams, with the Ewart team displaying some awesome skill and agility and the score see-sawing all the way.

The Ewart had all the chances to pull back the two-goal deficit, with some outstanding intercepts from the defence team and great attacking but they couldn’t quite convert all the ball they won and the final score was 31-29 to Linwood High.

The whole team played exceptionally well and deserve a mention for their speed, fitness and a great skill level and control in this game.

Team: Katie Landers, GS; Caera Morton, GS/GD; Gigha Johnstone, GA; Ilise Spice, WA (captain); Rebekah Campion, C; Soraya Doole GD/GK; Ruth Campion, WD; Sian Milveen, GK.

Thank go to Mrs E Penrose for umpiring, to Mrs E Murray timekeeping/scoring and to all the supporters.
