Man arrested over footballer stabbing

A MAN has appeared in court after a Stranraer footballer and his friend were stabbed outside a hotel.

Paul McInnes, who formerly played for Celtic and Kilmarnock, was attacked along with Anthony Boyle after an incident at the Seamill Hydro, near West Kilbride.

James Jackson, 51, of Glengarnock, made no plea after being charged with assaulting both 20-year-olds to the danger of their lives on December 21.

He was remanded in custody at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and is expected to make a second appearance next week.
