Kirkmabreck celebrating Biggar Cup triumph

KIRKMABRECK Curling Club won the Biggar Cup, sponsored by Penkiln Sawmill Company Limited, on Wednesday at Stranraer Ice Rink.

The club ended the day long competition with a combined total of plus 14 shots, three ahead of the runners-up Glasserton CC.

The highest-up rink in the winning club were the rink shipped by David Wilson with Peter Lupton, Stewart McFadzean and William Lindsay.

The Biggar Cup is the annual competition between rinks from the Galloway Province and was presented to the province in 1926 by Thomas Biggar of Castle Douglas.

Originally it was played at the Haymarket Ice Rink in Edinburgh with three rinks from each club represented.

At the presentation of prizes, Galloway Province President Bill Scott welcomed Colin Dewar from the sponsors, Penkiln Sawmill Company Limited, and asked him to present the trophy and the prizes of miniature granite curling stones to David Wilson and his rink.

Galloway Province Treasurer Hugh Templeton then gave the vote of thanks to Bill for officiating at the presentation of prizes and to the province secretary Louise Kerr for organising the competition.
