BOXERS from Whithorn Bravehearts ABC had a busy weekend, boxing at the Great Britain Championships and at a club show on Friday night in Motherwell.

Connal McDonald won silver and Daniel Purves bronze at the GB championships last weekend at Ravenscraig.

In the light heavy-weight class, McDonald drew a straight final against his old rival Ryan Hatton, from Tamworth. Both boxers battled from the first to the last bell but, unfortunately for McDonald, this year the gold medal went to the English boxer.

Purves got through to the semi-final at middleweight category against eventual gold medal winner Harrison Clarke from Wigan. Daniel gave a good account of himself, attacking straight from the bell and using his power and hand speed to try and outpoint Clarke, but the arm of the English boxer was raised the winner giving Daniel the bronze medal.

Braveheart coach Tom Jolly said: “Both boxers have trained hard over the last month in preparation for this competition and they gave their all for their country and club. Team Braveheart is getting stronger every season and competing against the best in Britain for our wee club and town. It make us all very proud.”
