The games are coming thick and fast now as the South of Scotland football season draws to a close in the coming weeks. On Saturday there is one Challenge Cup second round tie at Lorimer Park, Sanquhar where Nithsdale Wanderers play Wigtown and Bladnoch for the second Saturday in succession with the league match last weekend ending in a goal-less draw. Again this contest could go either way and could well take more than the regulation ninety minutes to decide what team progresses.
The other five matches are in the South of Scotland League with the match of the day being at St Marys Park where St Cuthbert Wanderers play Threave Rovers. This Stewartry derby is another contest that could be won by either team although the Castle Douglas side will start as slight favourites to take the three points to maintain their title challenge and with Saints concentrating on winning some silverware via the cup competitions. Stranraer play hosts to the other main title challengers Dalbeattie Star at Stair Park for what could well be a close contest with the home side showing what they are capable of by drawing with Threave Rovers last Saturday. Fleet Star may not be relishing the visit of Heston Rovers to Garries Park while Mid-Annandale have the opportunity to avenge last Saturdays two goals to one defeat when they play Crichton at Lockerbie. Bottom placed Creetown travel to Blairmount to play neighbours and local rivals Newton Stewart in they hope that they can hit form to take points to move away from the foot of the table. The Creesiders though are a team in goal scoring form and it will be a tough call for the visitors to take anything from this contest.
There are four matches scheduled for the evening of Monday 23rd April, with St Cuthbert Wanderers playing hosts to Newton Stewart in the semi-final of the Challenge Cup. The home side are in pursuit of several pieces of silverware and will be keen to win this contest to make amends for their four goals to one league defeat at Blair mount a couple of weeks ago. However Newton Stewart also feel that their name could be on some silverware this season so a good and exciting match is in prospect. In the League Creetown have Dalbeattie Star as their visitors while Crichton entertain Abbey Vale at Hospital Park. The two Rovers meet at Maryfield where Threave travel to play Heston for what could be a very evenly matched contest.
There are also four matches being played on the Wednesday evening when either St Cuthbert Wanderers or Threave Rovers play Heston Rovers or Dalbeattie Star in the Challenge Cup semi-final. Newton Stewart play Queen of the South at Blairmount in a Challenge Cup first round tie and in the South league Creetown have Abbey Vale as their visitors. Nithsdale Wanderers play Crichton at Sanquhar in the other match.
