Local rugby sides return to action

All three Galloway rugby clubs are scheduled to be back in action this weekend.

In RBS West Division One, Newton Stewart are at home to East Kilbride at Bladnoch Park with a 3pm kick-off.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides this season, and it looks like a tough fixture for the Reds.

East Kilbride are sitting second in the table, with an impressive record of 10 wins from the 13 games they have played so far.

Stewartry also have what looks like being a stiff challenge in RBS West Division Two.

The Blacks travel to Waysiders/Drumpellier, who are one position below sixth-placed Stewartry. The last time these two met, back in October, Waysiders just edged a low-scoring contest, running out 9-7 winners.

The Castle Douglas side will be keen to reverse that defeat but there is likely to be little to separate the two clubs, as both have similar records, Stewartry with eight wins from 14 games, and Waysiders seven from 15.

And in RBS West Division Three, Wigtownshire face a trip to Paisley. Again, this could be a cracking encounter between the teams placed third and fourth. Wigtownshire have five victories from the 10 outings, while Paisley have seven from 11. In their clash back in September, ’Shire pipped their visitors 13-11.
