Newton Stewart navigator Laura Marshall helped steer talented young Duns driver Garry Pearson to a class win in the 2WD category at the GWF Energy Merrick Stages Rally at the weekend.

Laura and Garry had a great run on the way to 20th overall, and first in the 1600cc category, in a Ford Fiesta R2. The car had just undergone a total engine rebuild in preparation for the forthcoming round of the British Rally Championship in Yorkshire.

“The car went really well, and the Merrick has given Garry some good mileage ahead of the Trackrod. We had a small moment heading towards a log pile on the last stage, but luckily the car managed to bounce out just at the last moment,” said Marshall, who, as well as the class award, picked up the Myra Huddleston Trophy as first female junior competitor, and, with Pearson, the Bruce Lyle Trophy for the leading junior crew.
