The South West of Scotland Horse Driving Club held another very successful driving event at The Lake District Wildlife Park, Keswick by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Graves. The event field was situated in a beautiful area and the weather although mixed made it a good weekend. The event was sponsored by Mr and Mrs D Hodgson, Mr and Mrs N Hodgson of Cottage Pies, David and Hazel and Sue Munro.

The event started on Saturday afternoon with the dressage and the cone driving. The marathon on the Sunday took the competitors on a trip round the Park tracks and they had the added attraction of seeing wallabies, giant bison, Zebras and many other animals as they travelled before returning back to the field to complete the five obstacles.

In a very tight Open class, Drew Douglas from Kirtlebridge driving Jimmy led from start to finish. He had the best dressage test followed by a double clear in the cones and then drove a consistent marathon to win the class. Pat Gillan from Wigtown driving Tommy also drove a good dressage. She posted some fast obstacle times but failed to catch Drew and had to settle for second place. Zan Kirk had the best marathon of the weekend finished in third and Jodie Dick fourth.

In a strong Multiples Class Barbara Paterson driving her pair took the honours by driving consistently in all three phases with Iain McKendrick only 2points behind in second. Pat Cooper driving her horse tandem was third and William Hendry with his two horse pairs took fourth and fifth places respectively. The Novice Class was won by Judith Hunt. Judith also won the field class with her other pony ahead of Carol Black in second and Ellen Dodd third.

The Cones Challenge event was won by Carl Bevan with Iain McKendrick and Jodie Dick joint second and Carol Black fourth.
