This year has been a very significant year in the history of Machars Riding Club. This year, the club’s celebrated its 25th anniversary and was delighted to announce that it had been successful in securing lottery funding.

From its humble beginnings 25 years ago, the riding club was born out of the enthusiasm of local equestrians and their desire to start a club to share their passion in the sport of equestrianism. Over the following twenty five years, thanks to the commitment and tremendous hard work of all committee members past and present, the club has gone from strength to strength, providing a springboard for some incredible international talent over the years. To allow it to continue as a successful forum for development and training, the club has, this year, been awardedlottery funding to facilitate professional training in all disciplines of the equestrian sport and also to part fund the purchase of state of the art timing equipment. Historically self sufficient, the club is very proud to have part funded this equipment itself. Machars RC will now be able to hold local events on a more professional level, enable local riders of all ages, from all backgrounds, living in our region to participate in regular equestrian sporting events and to attract additional participants from much farther afield.

The past year has been hugely successful, with very strong membership, supportive sponsors and a great venue at Carty Port Equestrian Centre, Newton Stewart. But now, as the year draws to a close, the club celebrates its 2011 championship league successes. This year the club held its annual prize giving ceremony at the Minnigaff Indoor Bowling Centre, Newton Stewart. Trophies, sashes and rosettes were awarded to both the champions and reserve champions of each class in both the disciplines of show jumping and dressage. Huge congratulations to all of the winners!
