With four matches called of due to frozen pitches last weekend, only one game survived the weekend’s frosty weather.

Dumfries Ladies 2s hosted Division 1 side Glasgow Accies 2s in the West District Plate on Sunday. With training and their Saturday match cancelled, Dumfries were eager to play and this showed in the performance.

It was Accies who settled into the game better and put the Dumfries defence under pressure early on but Anderson, Lees and Strachan survived the onslaught, with the midfield of Beattie, McClymont, Sloan and Niven (along with the substitutes of Dempster and Morgan) tested to their limits, and Hook in goal making some fine saves. Although Dumfries played good passing hockey, however, this could not prevent Accies scoring two goals before half-time.

With the support from the sidelines of family and friends, Dumfries stated the second half stronger and created chances for McKie, Clark and Bell-Irving. The sustained pressure from Dumfries led to a chance for McClymont to grab a consolation goal with 10 minutes to go.

That was until two minutes from time, when Dumfries were awarded a penalty corner. It was from this play that enabled McKie to slot home the equaliser. This forced the game into penalty flicks to decide the winner.

Both keepers make some good saves and forced the game to sudden death. Unfortunately, Accies ended up as winners after a Dumfrie flick was saved on the line. The team walked off to a deserved round of applause from the fans and a confidence boost for their coming games.

Ladies 1s have two games this week, at home against Glasgow Uni on Saturday and a trip to play Clydesdale Western 4s on Sunday. The 2s travel to play Hillhead 5s on Saturday. The men have now reached their mid-season break.
