Harrier Rick in hot form

The scorching hot temperature last Saturday didn’t seem to have any negative effect on Galloway Harriers’ ultra-marathon runner Rick Williams.

He took part in the 40-mile Clyde Stride race, which starts at Partick in Glasgow and follows the river Clyde to Lanark.

Rick has run a good number of ultra marathons (any race longer than the 26.2 marathon distance) but never one in heat such as he encountered in this race.

As the competitors were running east they were also running into the sun for most of the race. Despite this, Rick finished the race in and amazing fourth place in a time of 5.30.06, showing once again what an amazing long-distance runner he is.

Five Galloway harriers recently competed in the Girvan half-marathon and turned in impressive performances as usual.

Peter Horsell was the first Harrier to cross the line with Adam next followed closely by Chrissie Vincent. Married couple Simon and Ailsa Taggart battled it out to the end with Ailsa just beating Simon over the line.

Also in the recent Wigtown 10k fun run, seven Galloway Harriers enjoyed the scenic route.

Jamie Devine came first, Rick Williams second and Jemma O’Neill third. John Plumridge, David Beattie, Barnaby Williams and Martina Moore also ran the 10k.

Four junior Harriers took part in the two-mile run: Ruairi Beattie, Bronagh Beattie, Talitha Williams and Max Williams.
