Good win for Stewartry

Stewartry kicked off in glorious sunshine in front of a good sized crowd in their second league game at Greenlaw.

Stewartry put Cumnock under pressure from the start winning the first lineout and prop Cannon driving to within ten metres of the visitors line. Five minutes and a quick penalty from Muir saw the ball quickly passed out to Austin who scored out on the right.

Mosey added the conversion. Cumnock took the game back to Stewartry and good pressure led to a penalty award which Cumnock converted in the sixteenth minute. Three minutes later Andrew Kerr increased the Stewartry lead with a try out on the left. The conversion missed. Stewartry continued to throw the ball about keeping the pressure on and Broll added a third try between the posts in twenty three minutes. Mosey converted. The fourth bonus point try was engineered by Muir in an indvidual jinking run past four defenders to score at the posts. Mosey converted to make it 26-3 which Stewartry held on to as Cumnock pressed hard in the last ten minutes of the first half.

Cumnock kicked off the second half but within a minute Stewartry went further ahead Austin making good ground with McCarney and Thomson before going over for his second try. Ten minutes later Stewartry won possession ten metres out and Rory Porteous drove over for his first score. Mosey converted. Seven minutes later Porteous intercepted a loose pass and outsprinted the Cumnock defence from thirty metres out for his second try. Mosey converted.

This further set back spurred Cumnock on and in sixty two minutes scored their first try which they also converted. Four minutes later they added a second try. With five minutes left a third try for Cumnock gave the visitors hope off gaining a bonus point fourth try. Stewartry were soon back up to the mark and Captain Rory Porteous went over for his first ever hat trick of tries after good inter passing in the backs by David Kerr, Muir, Milligan and Smith.

Mosey again converted. In the final minute Lindsay broke through for his first ever try for Stewartry and Craig Mosey added his seventh conversion from nine tries giving Stewartry a convincing 59-20 win.
