Under 13’s League Cup Quarter-Final

Threave Rovers 2 Galloway Thistle 6

Sunday saw Thistle travel to Castle Douglas for an 11am kick-off in terrible wet and windy conditions - but the boys came away with a deserved victory.

After yet again going behind in the first 10 minutes Thistle came back fighting and were 2-1 up by half time through Aaron Maguire with a thunderbolt of a 25-yard free-kick and another great goal from Connor Kelly. The second half kicked off and Thistle piled on the pressure but kept finding the woodwork or the keeper in their way, but after Jason Macauley pulled off a tremendous save to thwart Rovers the boys got into gear with a great team goal from Robbie Adair. After Adair hit the post Rovers pounced on a mistake to pull a goal back to make it 3-2 to Thistle.

After making a few changes, Thistle eventually wore down their opponents and were rewarded with a penalty after Ally McColm was pulled down following some great individual skill. Whyte calmly stroked the penalty past a despairing Rovers keeper to make it 4-2. Once the fourth goal went in Thistle started to play their way. They looked at at ease on the pitch and finished off Threave with two great goals from Dawson and Maguire with his second of the game.

This Sunday sees Thistle travel to Stranraer for yet another away tie in the semi-final against Lochryan who are another great young team.

Kick-off is 11am to see who makes it through to the final to face either Dalbeattie or Heston Rovers
