Galloway Thistle

League Cup Semi Final

Lochryan 4 Galloway Thistle 5

This match turned out once again to be a great advert for youth football in this area as both teams put in a display that their coaches must be proud of.

Thistle went in front early in the match through Marc Whyte but Lochryan were awarded a penalty five minutes later to pull level. Straight away Thistle started to get on top and went ahead after 25 minutes when Rory Drysdale was pulled down in the box and the cool Whyte calmly converted to put Thistle in front once again with his second. But once again Lochryan showed how good a team they are by getting level two minutes later.

With half-time approaching Thistle wanted that lead and got it with a great all round team goal with man of the match Lewis Dawson finishing the move off to give Thistle a 3-2 lead at half-time.

The second half kicked off with Thistle playing against a strong wind but this seemed to help as they played passing football for the last 35 minutes. But it was Lochryan who scored next to level at 3-3. Yet again Thistle were determined to win this and began to fight for every ball which proved decisive as they scored two great goals with Whyte completing yet another hat-trick to close in on 60 goals for the season and five minutes later midfielder Russell Morton showed why SPL champions Rangers are desperate to sign him with a great lob over the keeper for a fifth.

With time running out Lochryan never gave up and pulled a consolation back in the last few minutes as the game faded out and Galloway Thistle booked their place in the final this Thursday at Threave Rover’s Meadow Park in Castle Douglas.

Kick -off is 7pm so why not go along and see if the boys can lift the trophy.

Well done to both Lochryan and Thistle for an outstanding match.
