Galloway swimmers in the medals

Swimmers from Galloway did their schools proud picking up medals at the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships.

The event took place at the Aquatics Centre in Aberdeen on Saturday 31st January 2015.

Qualification for this event was achieved through the Dumfries and Galloway Regional School Swimming Championships held back in November 2014. A total of 39 schools and 190 individual swimmers from the two events participated and after two terrific days of racing and a total of 17 new records, a large number of swimmers achieved the consideration times for the Scottish School Finals at Aberdeen Sport Village on Saturday 31st January 2015

Seventeen swimmers were accepted to represent Dumfries and Galloway and made the long journey up to Aberdeen. All the swimmers did their schools proud by winning a total of seven medals - four gold, one silver and two bronze.

Josh Mitchell (Stranraer Academy) picked up his gold in the boys 15/16 years 200m IM and silver in the 15/16 years 200m Breastroke.

Other top placings were:

Sam Mitchell (Stranraer Academy) placed 14th in the 13/14 years boys 200m IM

Blair Watret (Dumfries Academy) placed 11th in the 15/16 years boys 200m IM and 12th in the 15/16 years boys 100m Breastroke.

Rhys Handleigh (Dumfries High School) placed 17th in the 15/16 years boys 200m IM and 12th in the 15/16 years boys 200m Freestyle.

Gemma McLeod (Wallace Hall Academy) placed 13th in the 13/14 years girls 200m Freestyle and 18th in the 13/14 years girls 100m Backstroke.

Owen McBurnie (St Michaels Primary) placed 5th in the 12 and under boys 50m Breastroke

Ben Copeland (Calside Primary) placed 13th in the 12 and under boys 50m Breastroke.

Ava Simpson (Lockerbie Academy) placed 7th in the 12 and under girls 50m Breastroke

Adrianna Bullivant (Stranraer Academy) placed 12th in the 15/16 years 200m Butterfly and 20th in the 15/16 years girls 100m Butterfly.

Alex Muir (Wallace Hall Academy) placed 8th in the 17/19 years girls 100m Butterfly.

Spencer Bullivant (Sheuchan Primary) placed 12th in the boys 12 and under 50m Butterfly.

Lachlan Caulfield (Stranraer Academy) placed 10th in the 15/16 years boys 200m Freestyle.

Lewis McLeod (Stranraer Academy) placed 4th in the 15/16 years boys 100m Backstroke and 8th in the 15/16 years boys 200m Backstroke

Andrew Dunse (Castle Douglas High) placed 13th in the 15/16 years boys 100m Freestyle
