Around 60 members of the province turned out to congratulate Christine, see her gold medal and hear about her experiences at the championships held in Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Galloway Province Vice President Drew Paton welcomed everyone to the presentation and spoke of the trill of being at Dumfries to see the curlers in action. Many Galloway Province curlers had travelled to Dumfries to cheer Team Cannon on but her chief supporters were her family – husband Jim, son Gregor and daughter Jenni.

He remarked that Christine’s gold medal meant she now had the full set from world championships, having already won a silver and bronze.

After praising Dumfries and Galloway Council for both bringing the championships to Dumfries and them making such a good job of running them, he asked Galloway Province President, and Christine’s very proud husband Jim, to present her with the watch to mark her achievements.

Christine then took to the floor to tell the members how emotional she was winning the championships with three of her friends from her junior curling days. She told an amusing story of swapping gifts with the teams they played throughout the week and while the Canadians had given the Scots ladies a bottle of maple syrup the Finnish ladies has handed over sachets of anti-aging cream!

Christine then told the dramatic story of the final end of the gold medal game against Canada before thanking everyone in the Galloway Province for their valued support during the championships.
