An incredible 77 teams from 14 clubs took part in the Galloway Thistle Youth Football Fair at Blaimount Park, Newton Stewart at the weekend.

Budding young players from Scotland’s Central Belt, Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway and even Northern Ireland took part in a festival atmosphere on the 3G pitch.

This was the 14th football fair hosted by the Galloway Thistle club.

An estimated 10,000 kids have played at this festival since it started in 2002.

Andy McClymont, the past president of Southern Counties and a life member of the SFA added: “In this small and quite remote area, the Galloway Thistle play a very important part on the football scene. In my umpteen years connected with South of Scotland football I have certainly noticed a great improvement in basic footballing skills.

“We haven’t produced any superstars yet but increasing the interest and opportunities to compete is very important and in that respect you score top marks.”

Make sure you get your copy of this week’s Gazette with five full pages of pictures from the fair.
