Few surprises in south league start

There were a few surprises as the south of Scotland league kicked off last Saturday with teams finding their feet as the new season got under way.

Abbey vale back playing at home on their renovated pitch managed to hold the more fancied Edusport academy to a goal less draw while Creetown failed to find the net in their match against Heston rovers and went down by a single goal scored scored by Kieran Mckie in the twenty fifth minute.

Lochar went into double figures when they scored ten against Dumfries Ymca with lee Martin scoring six to add to two from Ross hunter and singles from Ryan Coates and mick mcgauchie.

Mid Annandale managed a great start to their season by beating Threave rovers by a single goal through striker Nathan muir in the 70th minute after Ben Irving had missed a penalty for the visitors after only two minutes play.

Champions st cuthbert wanders started where they left off last season by recording a four goals to two victory over Nithsdale wanderers at Kirkcudbright.

Ross hunter gave the home side the lead in the thirty eighth minute with Phil middlemass adding two in the second half before the Sanquhar side found the net twice through Kevin Roy and Stuart Campbell in a four minute spell. Two minutes from time jack louden secured the three points for saints when he found the net.

Newton Stewart also got off to a good start in their league campaign beating upper Annandale by three goals to one after going behind early on.

Two goals from Robert Middleton and a long range effort from Martyn Henry made sure of the three points for new manager jeck kiltie after ex Dalbeattie star keeper euan drysdale had saved a penalty for the visitors.

Wigtown and bladnoch also went behind in their match against new team lochmaben but came back with a Reece Agnew double and a single from Blair Dougan to take the three points.
