For the first time, with the help of everyone (MOD/Landmarc) at the Dundrennan site, the organiser of the Used Car Parts Solway Coast Rally have been given permission to extended the event into two days – Saturday and Sunday, August 10 and 11.
This is a big challenge for a club the size of Solway Car Club.
Last year the event managed to attract the Scottish F1000 Ecosse Challenge boys and girls to the ranges at Dundrennan but this year the rally has gone one better as the Irish boys and girls are coming this year too. Hence the extra day for the rally.
The F1000 rally club is a club open to anyone aged between 14 and 17 who wishes to compete in a rally championship for beginners. The feedback from the juniors last year was excellent as they all agreed this was their favourite event.
Richard Stewart from Used Car Parts, who sponsors the event, is delighted to see the young up and coming stars of the future compete in this event and it was part of the reason he had no issues with sponsoring the event again this year.
Regulations are available on the Solway Car Club website for anyone who wishes to enter. Sanny Dobie asks anyone who does intend to enter to get an entry in as soon as possible as there is quite a bit of interest already and entries are starting to arrive.
This year’s event starts with the senior event on the Saturday when last year’s winner – local favourite David Hardie – will hope to complete a hat-trick of wins on this event. He will face the usual stiff opposition from Mouswald’s Ian Patterson and a host of drivers from up and down the country as the senior event is part of the local Five of Clubs Rally Championship and the National Scottish Tarmac Championship respectively. With 10 stages on offer and 57 competitive miles it is a good value for money event as well as a stern test.
The event will then move on to the Sunday and the junior rally, which also has 10 stages but a reduced mileage of just under 40 competitive miles, still a fantastic test for 14- to 17-year-olds.
Marshals will be required in numbers so if you want to help and get close to the action on this event, call Sanny Dobie on 07742082001.
