Drizzle didn’t put off fishermen

IT was a dull and cloudy day with occasional showers for the third match of the Scottish seven series in the fishing world.

The weather did not dampen the spirits of the 21 anglers who took part. The match started well with the first fish (1.58kg) caught after 20 minutes by Bill McGill from Kirkinner, closely followed by Steve Dunn with a 2.02kg fish. This was winning until Gary Hamilton caught a 4.38kg pike, closely followed by Colin Campbell with a 3.94kg fish. Gary continued by catching another two pike and was winning right up to 20 minutes before the end when Colin took final victory, finishing on 9.14 kg for his three fish. Apart from the first and second positions who caught six pike, the others struggled and only another eight fish were caught from everyone else. Colin Campbell lifted the £100 first prize, with Gary Hamilton taking second and a good pike reel donated by Galloway Angling Centre.

The next match will be on Loch Heron on July 17.
