The fist competition of the season for members of Stranraer Ice Rink Curling Club took place on Tuesday evening. Sixteen teams contested the Drummond Rosebowl for mixed rinks.
The winners were Gail Munro, Trevor Harrison, Cathy Stevenson and Steven Dampney. They were presented with the trophy by Stranraer Ice Rink President Hew Chalmers.
Overs and Unders
The cream of Scottish Ladies curling talent was on display last weekend at Stranraer Ice Rink when the Royal Caledonian Curling Club Ladies Branch Over and Unders took place.
The competition is for two curlers over the age of 25 and two under.
Multi time world junior champions Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan and Vicki Adams were all competing in the two-day event. But by Sunday afternoon it was the more experienced skips who came through. The High Road final saw Stranraer’s Gail Munro with her team of Dorothy Bulloch, Rachel Mills and Willa Wilson, beat Marion McDonald’s team from Lanarkshire in a very dramatic final, getting a four in the last to win 8-6.
In the play off for third and fourth place, another Stranraer foursome, Christine Cannon, Louise Kerr, Katie Wright and Jenni Cannon, beat Jan Howard’s Greenacres rink 8-4.
Vicki Adams Honoured
Curlers from Stranraer Ice Rink Curling Club gathered in the North West Castle rink to honoured Vicki Adams last Friday night. The curling club hosted a party on Friday for the twenty-one year old from the Lochans, and presented her with a beautiful memento.
Last season, Vicki played second in Anna Sloan’s Scottish Championship winning team, second in Eve Muirhead’s Scottish Junior and World Junior Champions, and second in Anna’s GB team which won the World University Games curling golds in Erzurum.
Vicki is the latest in a long line of Stranraer curlers who have gone on to success national and world level.
