Whithorn Braveheart boxer Connal McDonald was part of a strong Scotland squad who competed in Berlin last week but lost his bout in the prestigious Brandenburg tournament.

Scotland team manager Mike Keane said: “Connal gave a great account of himself against an experienced German lad. Unfortunately, the hand of the German boxer was lifted at the end of the bout, but Connal will have gained valuable experience and will come back stronger.”

Out of five Scottish boxers, only one made it to the finals beating a Bulgarian, an Italian and a Kazakhstan boxer en route to winning Scotland’s first gold medal in the Brandenburg tournament.
