Christine retains Scottish Senior title

Wigtown curler Christine Cannon and her rink are heading for the world senior curling championships in Dumfries in April after winning her second Scottish senior total at Hamilton Ice Rink at the weekend.

The Cannon’s team of Margaret Richardson, Isobel Hannen and Janet Lindsay, beat Isobel Waddell’s local team of Liz Horton, Dor Moran and Jackie Craig 6-4 in the final on Sunday afternoon.

Christine and her rink won all six games in their section before secured their place in the final by beating Grace Paterson from Kinross 7-3 in the semi-final meaning their went through the entire competition undefeated.

A thrilled Christine told The Galloway Gazette about her triumph. She said: “Delighted to retain our Scottish title a great achievement for the team and we are looking forward to playing in front of out home crowd at Dumfries and we will be trying to improve on our performance at last year’s championships when we were beaten for the bronze medal by Sweden.”
